Local SEO and Google Business Profile

Local SEO and Google Business Profile.

When someone nearby searches for what you do, Google shows a map and a few businesses before anything else. We set up and look after your Google Business Profile, reviews, listings and town pages, so you are one of the businesses they see.

Why it matters

The map is where local choices happen

Search

Map results come first

For "near me" and "service + town" searches, Google usually shows its map results above the ordinary listings. Without a well-kept Business Profile you can't appear there at all.

Trust

Reviews do the selling

People compare star ratings, read a few recent reviews and look at photos before they ring anyone. A profile that looks looked-after gets the call.

Consistency

One business, one set of details

Old directory listings with a former address or phone number confuse customers and search engines. We find them and get them corrected.

What our local SEO covers

Google Business Profile

Set up or tidied up, verified, and kept current with posts, photos, services and accurate hours.

Map result visibility

Categories, service areas and profile content chosen for the searches that bring in work near you.

Reviews

A simple, compliant routine for asking every customer, plus help replying well to good and bad reviews.

Listings and citations

Your name, address and phone made consistent on the directories that matter, and wrong old listings corrected.

Town pages that earn their place

Pages for the areas you serve, each with real local detail, never copy-and-paste templates.

Reporting you can read

Calls, direction requests, website clicks and enquiries from your profile and pages, explained in plain English every month.

What we set up

Before asking clients to trust us with theirs, we went through our own Google Business Profile line by line:

  • our trading name, exactly as it appears everywhere else
  • categories that match what we sell
  • the Northern Ireland areas we serve
  • opening hours
  • each service, written out
  • real photos
  • the website link pointing at the right page

Where it stands

5.0 stars from 10 Google reviews. We’re based in Ballymena and work across Northern Ireland, so the profile lists the areas we serve rather than relying on a single town.

It is the same checklist we use for every client, below.

Checklist

Eight things every profile needs

  1. The right primary categoryPick the category that matches your main money-making service, not the broadest one. Add secondary categories only where they're true.
  2. Service area, not a radiusList the towns you actually travel to, and hide your address if customers don't visit you.
  3. Business name exactly as it isYour real trading name, with no keywords or towns stuffed in. Google suspends profiles for this.
  4. Services written outAdd each service with a short description in your customers' words.
  5. Hours, including holidaysWrong opening hours lose calls. Set special hours for bank holidays and the Twelfth fortnight if you close.
  6. Real photosYour vans, your team, your finished jobs. Add a few every month.
  7. A link to the right pagePoint the website button at the page that best matches the profile, often your home page or a town page.
  8. A review routineAsk every happy customer, make it easy with a short link, and reply to every review.

Local SEO questions

Something else? Ask us directly and we’ll give you a straight answer.

We work from home and don't want our address on Google. Can we still appear in the map results?

Yes. Google lets service-area businesses hide their address and show the areas they cover instead. Most trades and mobile services in Northern Ireland should be set up this way. You still verify with a real address, it just isn't shown to the public.

Should we use Derry or Londonderry, or both?

Use one version consistently in your business name, address and listings, normally whatever is on your signage and paperwork. On your website, mention both naturally, because people search with both. The same idea applies to places like Royal Hillsborough and Hillsborough. Don't create two pages or two profiles for one place.

How many Google reviews do we need?

There's no magic number. What matters is that reviews keep arriving, describe the actual job and mention the area, and that you reply to them. A business with a steady trickle of recent reviews usually does better than one with a big batch from years ago. We set up a simple routine so asking becomes a habit.

Can you guarantee a place in the map results?

No, and nobody honestly can. Google decides the map results based on relevance, distance from the person searching and prominence. We work on everything you can control, and we report on calls, direction requests and website clicks from your profile so you can see what is changing.

Do we need a separate page for every town we cover?

Only for towns where you have something real to say, such as jobs you've done there, reviews from local customers or a genuine reason people there choose you. Google is cracking down on near-identical town pages, so a handful of strong pages beats fifty thin ones. See how we approach Ballymoney or Ballymena.

Does local SEO help with AI answers too?

Largely, yes. Google's AI Overviews and other AI tools lean on the same signals: a complete Business Profile, consistent details across the web, reviews and clear pages. If AI recommendations matter to you, our AI search optimisation work builds on the same foundations.
